Letter From W.Z, November 29, 2016
Hello,
My name is W. Z., and I am a Freshman at the Beverly Hills High School. Today I heard your speech, and I am writing now to let you know that I was truly touched by it. You gave a powerful and deeply meaningful talk about your son and specifically on thinking before acting. I know I speak for many when I say that it was admirable.
Daily, I hear stories of people I know attending high school parties, and I hear the tales of what happened and the activities they undertook. Many show questionable behavior, including some illegal actions. And as I hear those stories, I swear to myself that I will never go to any party any time soon. And then I move on with my day, not giving it too much thought. But hearing you talk today changed that. Your speech brought to life the things that really do happen when you engage in high-risk behavior and don’t think before you act. I’ll admit, hearing you speak about your very own experience with your son made me tear up. I can only imagine how you and your wife felt that night. But the fact that you took a truly unacceptable event and turned it into a learning experience is incredible. You touched the hearts of many during your speech, and I was so lucky to meet you.
So, I wanted to email you to tell you how grateful I am that you spoke at the high school today. You opened my eyes to something I had never seen before. And I can promise you that after hearing you talk, I will think. I will think before I make decisions. I will think at every chance that I get. Thank you for your powerful words, and I wish you and your family the absolute best. Vahagn sounded like an incredible guy, and I am thankful that he was able to touch the hearts of so many in the time that he had.
Best wishes,
W. Z.”
